Gifted Children's Exhibit
Collaboration with Hampton School System To Promote Gifted Youth
Blue Skies Gallery is teaming with Hampton City Schools to host an opening and showing of works by elementary-aged gifted students participating in the Excel Art program. The show opens Friday May 2nd with an opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30PM on May 8thThe work will be on display through May 31st
The show is entitled Primary Expressions.  The young artists will attend the reception along with their parents, gallery affiliated artists and school officials.  Come meet a creative force of the future.

Excel Art is a program offered by the Department of Academic Advancement and Enrichment of the Hampton City School System.  The program identifies and delivers enriched and accelerated discipline-based art instruction to students “gifted” in the visual arts.
Students participate in an all-day pullout program in a mixed grade level classroom with students from all over the city. Eligible students are bused to and from their home school one day a week. The school division provides transportation.
 

 

Gallery Offers Dialog To Promote Gifted Youth

Blue Skies Gallery in conjunction with Cynthia McAdoo-Davis to host a gallery talk on Promoting Gifted Youth Through the Visual Arts. The talk will conclude the month long show entitled, Primary Expressions. Ms. McAdoo-Davis is the coordinator for the Department of Academic Advancement and Enrichment’s program for gifted elementary-aged art students in Hampton.  The talk will address the characteristics of the gifted learner, development of critical thinking skills, divergent problem solving, and nurturing the visually gifted child. McAdoo-Davis is a practicing artist and veteran art instructor on the Peninsula.

Gallery talk is scheduled for Thursday, May 29 at 5:00 pm.
