A Hampton, VA native, Kathy Wooldridge enjoyed learning to paint, draw and
work with clay in high school but from the beginning, always wanted to
work with glass. Even though art is her greatest passion she is the
practical sort and opted for a business degree in Management from
Christopher Newport University.
Wooldridge was finally able began working
in glass in 1980, soon participating in her first art show. She had the opportunity
to do glass blowing and fusing but she has focused her attention primarily on
multiple depth sand carving and stained glass, frequently combining these techniques
in the same piece. Her sand carving skill is completely self taught.
In 2002, Wooldridge was selected to represent the State of
Virginia by designing an ornament for the White House Christmas Tree to be included
in the Permanent Ornament Collection. In 2003 she was selected to design
a set of three ornaments for the Virginia Governors Mansion Christmas Tree.
