Born in Bulgaria, Ivanka Mincheva received her Master degree Diploma in Fine Sculpture and Ceramic Arts 1974 from the prestigious Nikolai Pavlovich Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria. Though she started her career as a portrait and monumental artist, Mincheva chose to concentrate on medals in 1980 because the medium allowed her to respond quickly to her inspiration. She is the most prominent American member of an elite group of international artists who specialize in art medals - small, single or double-sided relief sculpture often cast in bronze or brass. She also creates plaster or porcelain reliefs, jewelry, ornaments and ceramics - each piece artistically unique and one-of-a-kind. Those pieces can incorporate a variety of media such as acrylic, shells, feathers, melted glass, etc. Mincheva's works are sought by collectors and art lovers around the world. Her sculpture - both large and small - have been in display in dozens of private galleries and added to the permanent collections of National Museums including The British Museum in London, The Hermitage in St. Petersburg, The Pushkin Museum in Moscow, National Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria.
