After retiring from the military, Gerome Meminger, Sr., a Hampton native, pursued his hidden artistic passion for painting and writing poems to accompany them. Through doing so Meminger became an artist, poet, and author of the books entitled “Poetry Art & Truth” and a children’s book, “The Lonely Little Blue Book”. He enjoys having the ability to express his views with paper, paint and a pen. A versatile self-taught artist with an innate ability to paint, when Meminger sees a blank canvas and a certain mood hits him, he visualizes a completed work of art. Meminger’s medium of preference is acrylic paint. When he paints, he paints very fast to capture the vision in his mind because if he waits too long the image slowly fades and the moment is lost forever. When Meminger paints a picture, he doesn’t try to stay inside the lines. His style is outside the box. He wants his work to show that a human hand actually painted the picture. When he paints, he sometimes gets so involved
in the painting that some of the bristles of his brush may come out on the canvas.
He leaves the bristles on the canvas and this now becomes very much a part of
the painting and one of his signature markings of his work. When Meminger
paints, he doesn’t strive for perfection, he strives to produce a heartfelt
emotion in his work. Meminger’s books are in several libraries,
they are collected and are in the inventory of major bookstores such as Barnes
& Noble and Books-A-Million.
